Any male who goes to see Alfie, should have his balls chopped off. Unless, you're gay, which would be a good excuse, and therefore would allow you to keep your balls.

Jude Law must be doin large amounts of blow to have worked in all of the films he's been in lately. I think he may be putting up a good fight against Stiller for most movies in a short period of time. Should he be nomitated for an Overexposedy award this year?

Though I by no means recommend going to see ALFIE, it's not what you think it is. When I heard Paramount was remaking ALFIE, I rented the original 1966 version starring Michael Caine just to see what it was all about (no pun intended). It's a movie about a guy who today would be called a "player". He runs around London juggling five or six women at once, and is a complete **** to all of them. It uses the somewhat novel (novel in 1966 that is) of Michael Caine breaking the fourth wall, that is, in the middle of the scene he keeps turning to the camera and explaining his thought process or filling the audience in on a little secret about how to fool/treat/**** women (think Zack Morris). The original ALFIE was terrible. No plot, just Michael Caine running around treating women like dirt. Of course, sometimes he so obnoxious that it's funny, and he does give a few priceless mischievous looks towards the camera. But other than that the movie is a complete waste of time.

Moving onto the new remake starring Jude Law. Have I mentioned how much I dislike Jude Law? Not to say he's a bad actor, he's just extremely unlikable, even when you're supposed to like him in a movie. As is reflected in Cynic's previous post, I'd say just about every male moviegoer in America wants to knock Jude's teeth out. Why am I telling you this? Because ALFIE is supposed to be a "guy's movie". And when Paramount realized what a terrible mistake they'd made (making a no-plot guy's movie starring an actor that no straight male cares to see in a film), they scrambled to fix it by having all the previews make ALFIE out to be a chick flick, praying it would fool women into going to see the movie. Of course, when those women show up, they're not at all going to get the movie they thought they were coming to see. Instead they get Jude Law talking to the camera about how to trick women into sleeping with you. So they're going to leave the theater disappointed and will badmouth the movie to their friends. ALFIE's horrible performance at the box office this weekend reflects just that. Skip this one (as well as the original, unless you're a big Michael Caine fan).

I saw THE INCREDIBLES this morning. It's not on par with FINDING NEMO but I liked it a lot. Lots of laughs aimed at adult audiences.

I really liked the movie, ALFIE. I think he learned from his player lifestyle and evolved to a person more aware of his actions. You don't always see movies where the main character is a horrible, cocky jerk yet you learn to empathisize not with his actions, but his desire to control his destiny in a more positive tone.

I thought it was interesting that the movie did not tie up in neat American, Hollywood ending...it's almost like the producers knew that it would not be that believable to think that a guy like Alfie could really complete a 180 degree flip.

I think it's every girl's hope that guys can really evolve. Unfortunately, from the informal poll that I've taken from old men (who giggle at their younger, rowdy days)...they don't change unless there's something major that makes them change. ALFIE addresses this point.
