"Alice's Misadventures in Wonderland" was filmed in Birmingham this past year. It won the Sidewalk Film Festival grand prize. I am very impressed with the film's mix of humor, symbolism, and modern elements that complete the spin on a classic story. It has the feel of baz luhrmann's version of "romeo and juliet." It also had some other creative cinematic touches such as crossing a movie's characters with commercials blurring back to the movie again. The directors said that they are sending it around the other festival circuits so if it comes to your town, I'd definitely recommend seeing it.
Looks like it has some creative elements -- I like that 'visual effect' guy in the trailer. Did you see the movie? Is it actually good, or is does it fall into the it's-so-bad-it's-good category? I'd check it out if it plays in L.A.
It's actually great. I saw it this past Tuesday night. It is an independent film meaning that it's not going to have polished look of a miramax film.
The Queen of Roses is played by a manic drag queen. That part alone is worth seeing. The film even has a COPs-type chase scene at the end with red-necks on motorcycles. If you're in LA then you'll appreciate that part.
The setting begins in an office land of cubicles. The "rabbit hole" is the elevator which takes her to wonderland. etc...if it comes out there, go check it out.
