Just finished the book THE RAZOR'S EDGE by W. Somerset Maugham. Anybody read it? I absolutely loved it. Gets you completely fired up about the spirit of living life off-the-beaten-path. Living life the way your heart tells you to, not following the "track" (cookie cutter job, etc.) that society tells you to, not concerning yourself with material value. It really made me think, made me want to pack up and travel. Though it's an old book it's not at all stuffy -- writing is really energetic and captivating and will make you want to pack everything up and start travelling. I highly recommend it.
Anybody read any good books lately that they'd recommend? I'm halfway through THE ELECTRIC KOOL-AID ACID TEST. Fascinating. My buddy 'OB' here in L.A. is actually Gretchin Fetchin's son -- he actually spent years of his childhood on the psychadelic bus. I think Gretchin was still doing acid when she was pregnant with him. He's out of his ****ing mind. Seriously.
Read this book by Maugham a few years back and really liked it. Basically, it's a fictitious first person account of what Gauguin's epiphany and move to Tahiti must have been like (he was an accountant in Paris until one day he randomly decided to leave his family and life to paint).
Do you recommend reading her books (like THE FOUNTAINHEAD which has been sitting on my shelf for ten years) or watching one of the two movies she wrote? (LOVE LETTERS and YOU CAME ALONG, both in 1945)
