okay, Diego Rivera and Frieda Calo (sp?) love story and her art, etc. Great use of montage scenes with biography and her paintings mirroring events in her life. the behind-the-scenes DVD which takes up another entire DVD is pretty interesting to see all of the various members who made it happen with special effects for low-cost movie.
Ed Norton wrote the screenplay and plays Rockefellar in the movie.
It is nice to see a hot chick with a una-brow. Really puts some perspective on the whole thing. I still haven't caught this movie yet I have heard good things though. I saw a documentary about Frida Carlo in a spanish class in 8th grade, and have been a fan of her work (and Diego Rivera) ever since. A lot of sub-concious biological allusion. Along with a good dose of Aztec pride. Diego's murals are some of my favorites. I don't know why I haven't seen this one yet.
The director and Salma Hayek read all of Frieda's diaries (which is another reason to shred your writing after you write something) and say that Diego is really given a bad rap by the public because it's very obvious how much Frieda loved him. I remember learning about her in an art class and the professor saying how awful Diego was to her, which was shown by the paintings...so it sounds like a lot of people are off on the real story.
Also, they say that she painted herself much more ugly than she was in real life (adding on a girl stache)...but when were tweezers invented? She was also supposed to be very feminine with how she would dress or adorn herself with flowers so it's a weird distraction to keep the una brow but she also had a masculine side. very interesting character to draw from for a movie, regardless, because of all of her various sides.
They kind of produced the novel like an Isabella Allende novel with magical realism...which is a mix of reality mixed with myth/magic of South American folklore/art/religion. Sorry for the BS blabbing but the behind-the-scenes DVD of this film is really good!
