SCARECROW is an early 70s film with Gene Hackman and Al Pacino (who is just a baby in it). Saw it last night at a local film series event and loved it!
They're two vagabond drifters who befriend one another, moving from north california towards pittsburgh and detroit, each with separate dillusional dreams. the screenplay is much like a John Steinbeck novel, character-wise and gets you teary at the end for their friendship; apparent though hidden by macho fighting and drama.
There's even an attempt at a Brokeback Mtn. moment by a stranger on poor Pacino! ha, ha
P.S. Gene Hackman is always old. I don't mean that meanly but he looks to be about 35 in this film and that was years ago!
